Urban Chickens

Last week a friend of mine told me that he had just got a few chickens for his back yard. I was very excited to hear this, because only a few weeks ago, I was listening to a show on Ontario Today about urban chickens. I think it'd be great to have my own fresh eggs in the morning and have a couple chickens running around in the back yard.

But I soon realized that chickens are kind of like dogs and cats. You have to take care of them. And I don't think I like eggs from my own back yard enough to commit to caring for my own chickens. So, I suggested that my dad raise chickens!

That didn't go over. Anyway, I went to visit my friends chickens: Rusty, Busty, Crusty and Dusty. They were very nice and had just laid an egg before I arrived.

My friend has since realized that he and his wife aren't quite prepared to invest their lives into their chickens either. But as of Sunday, the chickens were still around. They may be roasted sooner than later, but in the mean time, fresh eggs!
