Inspiration

Is it really inspiring when it doesn’t result in action? Every once in a while I see something that reminds me of a picture book project that I’d like to do. Can I say that it inspires me though, if I never work on it?

Today I found a really neat book that reminds me of Edward Gorey—a picture book author and illustrator who I’d like to inspire me. I think I’m progressing to the point where I can recognize the genius involved in this kind of project and that I’m not capable of it (right now.) Never the less, I feel like I’ve been inspired… but we’ll see.

The Week that Was

Taking a page from Richard, here’s what’s been going on this past week—mostly because I’m too busy working during the day and too busy not being busy during the evening to blog regularly.

Early last week, I slipped into a funk about having my hopes of finding work in Thunder Bay dashed, yet again. The cool rainy weather helped to keep that running for a few days. Managed to take in the Jetta for at service recall and its 80000km checkup. I smiled that my tires were rotated even thought they’re only two weeks old.

I made some iPod observations one day (when it wasn’t raining in the morning) as I rode my bike to the bank. Instead of taking the direct route home, I took the long, scenic route just so I could listen to some unexpected music. So, the iPod can help improve one’s health. I was digging around in my ear later that day and found the little ear-bud slipper fell off inside my ear. Glad it wasn’t a big chunk of wax.

Small group happened on Wednesday night—we’re not hosting it anymore, so that makes Wednesdays a little more relaxing. Thursday was clearing up enough that we could go for a walk before Survivor. Friday, was a late working day—it started with Jenn, so it continued with me. I’ve been writing the user guide for the product my employer is creating. Our first product is due to ship early next week, so things will stay busy on the work front for me. I also got a major update to the BUD website online Friday night.

Saturday morning our plan was to check out the new War Museum that opened this weekend. We hopped on our bikes around 9:30–10:00am and when we got to the museum, the line-up was all around the building. So we just continued along the Ottawa River. Lots of military looking people with lots of gear, vehicles, tents, and artillery were camped out in the parks along the river. It was neat to see some of the stuff and watch as they were preparing for a reenactment they were taking part in later in the day. We eventually crossed the river into Quebec and returned along the dark side. We had a little lunch in the Market before heading home. Jenn’s cousin was in town and we had her over in the evening and Jenn made these huge chicken breasts wrapped in phylo pastry.

Sunday was another beautiful day. After church (and let me put a plug in for Peter who not only keeps my interest, but preaches in a way that allows me to keep notes and teaches me stuff every week) we put on our summer clothes and took a leisurely walk into the Glebe and along the canal discussing our options for the next few months and years.

I finished reading the Lord of the Rings last week (maybe the previous?) and while trying to decide what to read next, I started the Hobbit. I should be done that in a couple days (I only read 10–20 pages before I fall asleep, I’m not in a rush.) After a conversation with Doug last week I thought that I’d pick up C. S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy next, but seeing as the new Harry Potter is out in 67 days, I have just enough time to re-read Order of the phoenixcomes out. Of course that raises an interesting question: Who gets dibs on OotP, Jenn or me?

PS: I’m taking down my previews of the new UFG and NatS video soon, so watch ‘em while you can!

Not Enough Flash…

…too much substance. Always with the clever titles, I know.

So, Rich was asking me today about a Flash project he’s got in his mind and as part of my response I told him about a couple projects that I’ve started over the past while, but never got around to finishing. I sent him links to these un-done animations and thought, I might as well just put them out there for you guys to see too.

Don’t forget, these aren’t even works in progress, so don’t expect too much.

Negligent

I know, I’ve been remiss in my blogging duties. Sorry. I don’t even know that I have anything blogworthy tonight to share with you. So, perhaps I’ll just let this post degenerate into a list of neat things I’ve seen online over the past few days…
